Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, is located at the Levine Center for the Arts in the south quadrant of uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. It is named for Harvey Gantt, the city’s first African-American mayor and the first African-American student at Clemson University. The Harvey B. Gantt Center is one of Charlotte’s premier wedding venues and the perfect setting for rehearsal dinners, showers, wedding ceremonies and receptions.

The Gantt Center celebrates the contributions of Africans and African-Americans to American culture and serves as a community epicenter for music, dance, theater, visual art, film, arts education programs, literature and community outreach. The unique venue offers a variety of options for hosting social events while providing a modern, elegant ambiance to capture memorable photographs.

What makes the Harvey B. Gantt Center unique as a Charlotte wedding venue?

Every love story and wedding is unique. From our expansive Grand Lobby to the sublime Rooftop Terrace, the Gantt Center features three levels of event space designed to astound you! With our striking, award-winning architecture, the 46,500-square-foot Gantt Center offers a sophisticated setting for magical wedding day memories you will cherish forever. The Gantt Center can accommodate up to 160 guests seated. Our Events Manager, Amani D. Johnson, will design a wedding package just for you, one as unique as your love story.


What should couples know before booking the Harvey B. Gantt Center?

All facility rental rates are based on a (4) hour maximum time frame for receptions and (5) hour maximum for a wedding ceremony and reception. The Gantt Center also has an approved/preferred caterer’s list and outside catering is not permitted. The Gantt Center carries all ABC permits and is the exclusive supplier of alcoholic beverages for all events. Any alcoholic beverages served at the Gantt Center must be purchased through the Gantt Center. All wedding packages include bridal and groom suites; complimentary champagne toast for the bride and groom; usage of facility for engagement and bridal photo shoots; on-site Event Manager; and in-house tables and chairs.


Does the venue have parking and if so, is there a cost to park?

Parking during events is $5 with Gantt Center validation at The Duke Energy parking garage (101 W. Stonewall St.) or The Green (435 S. Tryon St.).

Rooftop Pavilion:

The Rooftop Pavilion features floor-to-ceiling windows with exotic Brazilian tiger wood floors, boasting a breath-taking sunset on a clear day. It is the perfect event space to host luncheons, dinners, wedding ceremonies and receptions, social occasions, and can be transformed into a casual lounge, great for intimate jazz performances. This event space can accommodate 100 seated for lunch or dinner, and 150 for a standing reception. The Rooftop Terrace is an added bonus feature in the Rooftop Pavilion. This outdoor terrace provides the perfect scenic view of the Carolina Panthers Bank of America Stadium for your outdoor ceremony backdrop.


Mezzanine:

The Mezzanine overlooks the Harper-Roddey Grand Lobby offering an intimate reception area for cocktail hour and/or small event. Located between our East and West Galleries, you and your guests have the advantage of being surrounded by our two featured exhibitions. This 768-square-foot event space can accommodate 100 for a standing reception, and is available after 6:00 pm. The Harper-Roddey Grand Lobby and Mezzanine together create a loft-like ambiance, where guests are able to truly experience the beauty of the museum. Access to exhibitions is available upon request for an additional fee.


Performance Suite:

The Performance Suite is the perfect private location for indoor wedding ceremonies or a reception. The dance floor can hold up to 160 guests. It is also equipped with audio and visual needs for presentations. This 1,397-square-foot event space can accommodate 100 seated for lunch or dinner, 135 theatre style, and 150 for a standing reception.

Grand Lobby:

The Grand Lobby features floor-to-ceiling windows with unique earth-tone slate tile adding a certain richness to the room. The Grand Lobby can serve as your indoor wedding ceremony space or reception space for up to 160 guests.

Optional services which may be provided through the Gantt Center Upon request include:

  • Access to museum galleries – $5 per person
  • Parking vouchers for guests – $5 per person
  • White leather lounge set (2 couches, 1 love seat, 2 ottomans) – $250.00
  • White Resin folding chairs – $3 per chair
  • Additional Event Set-up in lieu of a “day-of” coordinator – $750.00
