Wedding Postponed Due to COVID-19?

Bride and Groom by water | Jpellin Video + Design

Planning a wedding can be stressful for some and not so stressful for others. So much to think about from setting a date, picking a dress, selecting a wedding planner, determining the venue, hiring a photographer and videographer and so much more. It can take months, even years to plan your special day. If your wedding was scheduled for May or June, you’ve already invested an exorbitant amount of time/hours.

So, what happens when a global pandemic changes your plans?

The outbreak of COVID-19 has us in an unprecedented time. We’ve heard of almost every country in the world being impacted and putting into place stay-at-home orders. Businesses have been mandated to close (with the exception of those deemed ‘essential’), schools are closed for this academic year, folks are being quarantined; on top of the stay-at-home orders, sporting events are cancelled, a safe distance of at least six-feet is recommended, all these restrictions impact your ‘special’ day.

At this point, we don’t know when or if things will get back to normal. I’m sure this can bring about feelings of frustration, sadness, disappointment, or even anger. This is a great time to lean on family, friends, and your wedding planner to decide what to do next.

So, how do brides start to reschedule their wedding during COVID-19?

Take advantage of digital platforms such as Zoom, Facebook, Instagram, Google and others.

Technology advancements have created opportunities for face-to-face interactions.

Contact your wedding planner.

Be sure to let him/her know of your decision to postpone the wedding. They should work with you to inform all vendors of the change. This should help relieve some of the stress.

Select a new wedding date.

Be sure to consult with immediate family, the wedding party, the wedding planner and vendors to ensure the new date is available on their calendar. Once confirmed, book it!

Send out a new save the date and invitations.

With COVID-19 many vendors are offering specials or re-dos, especially if you ordered with them originally. Send out an updated invitation package. This will let your guest know the wedding has been rescheduled. Don’t forget to update your wedding website with the new information.

Relax!
Now that the new date is set, vendors and guests have been notified, sit back and enjoy planning; for the second time.
